Life’s journey is not easy, and we often experience times along the way when we feel alone, lost, mired in old patterns of thinking or behaving, or in need of somebody to talk to about our concerns. A therapist may be that person.
Do you want to communicate with more clarity and confidence with the people in your life? Know how to cope with whatever you are confronted with?Begin to understand other people’s annoying and/or irrational behaviors?Would you like your intimate relationships to be more satisfying and joyful?Do you want to finally understand and change addictive/destructive behaviors that negatively impact your life, relationships or family?Would you like to heal from past emotional/physical/sexual/spiritual abuse or neglect that have made you feel sad, angry, worthless, shameful, vulnerable or fearful?Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, dissociative episodes, flashbacks or any other symptoms that interfere with living your life to the fullest? And finally, would you like to feel a regular sense of inner peace and joy about who you are and your place in the world?
If you have said yes to any of the above questions, you will benefit from the services of
Counsellor/Psychotherapist
When you speak or meet with a Counsellor, make sure that you are comfortable with that person – trust your instincts as they are usually spot-on. You have the right to find a Counsellor with whom you can be open and honest and feel safe doing so. You also have the right to change Counsellors at any time.
Ask questions:
1. What are the therapist’s qualifications and experience, especially around the issues that concern you?
2. What professional organizations do they belong to? Most therapists belong to a professional organization that has a code of ethics and a regulating board. This will give you recourse should you have a complaint about the therapy.Check on their confidentiality policy.
3. Is there a free initial consultation offered?
Also be sure to check on their policy around last-minute cancellations and what happens if you are running late for an appointment.
At the first session I will invite you to share with me what it is that has brought you to see me at this time. I will then give you a brief assessment of how I view your situation as an Internal Family Systems therapist and explain the concepts of the type of psychotherapy that I use. If you (and your partner) feel comfortable to proceed we will work out a plan of action together.
I will then ask you to fill out a Client Intake Form and a Client Contract Form outlining Confidentiality limitations, Professional recourse, Session fees, etc. The forms can also be downloaded from the Appointments page and brought with you to your first appointment. We will also discuss fee payment options and frequency of sessions. You are invited at all times to ask as many questions as you find necessary.
For information on what the experience will be like please see "The IFS Client" link on the Appointment page.
Please see Appointment page for Fee rates and Appointment information.
