It is in relationship with others that we are the most reactive and the most vulnerable, a place from which we have the potential to learn the most about ourselves.
Communication issues, repetitive conflict, disappointed expectations and fear or lack of intimacy are all areas of concern that unfold with more insight. Couples begin to discover their many parts/aspects of their personality and recognize their responsibility in owning their own feelings and thoughts. Light is shed on the attachment patterns developed early in life and its impact on previous and current relationships. The couple will learn how their own fearful parts 'trigger' hurt and fearful parts in their partners.
Each partner will learn to trust in themselves so that they can be 'undefended' with the other and be able to connect with love and compassion again.
Please read the Couple Counselling page for more information.
Depression/Suicidal Ideation/Self Harming Thoughts and Actions:
With support and guidance you will begin to explore these heavy, sad and often negative, frightening thoughts and behaviors. Gain insight as you start to understand how and why these 'parts' of you exist and how they work for you with positive intent. Harness your inner resources and become the compassionate, stable leader in your internal world. Feel more empowered and reclaim your joy and appreciation for yourself and your relationships.
Addictions:
Internal Family systems (IFS) therapy is combined with harm-reduction techniques to help you understand the role of these often distructive behaviors and, at the same time, start to heal the emotional wounds that have brought about the addictive thoughts and behaviors in the first place.
Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Gambling, Internet, Pornography, Sex, Shopping, TV and Computer Games, Binging amongst others. These are the ways we try to deal with uncomfortable feelings that are triggered inside us by the actions or words of people around us or our circumstances. Positive changes naturally occur upon the resolution of the underlying problem(s) that led to the creation of these protective and sometimes distructive behaviors.
Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD):
This therapy approach combines conventional symptom-management techniques with Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy techniques to address the underlying causes of these symptoms in a safe, deeply respectful and non-re-traumatizing manner.
The distressing symptoms of PTSD are viewed as your systems protective coping strategies and therefore always having positive intent for you. In other words, instead of thinking these thoughts and behaviours are working against you, you come to know and appreciate how they are doing their best to protect you from re-experiencing painful and scary feelings and situations.
As you develop a different relationship with these symptoms and begin the healing process,
these protective methods the body and mind have developed begin to diminish in intensity and frequency.
Trust in your own ability to cope effectively in everyday situations is reclaimed.
Eating Disorders:
This approach recognises and appreciates that there are many aspects of one's personality involved in the dynamics of an eating disorders. IFS Therapy guides the identification of all the parts involved and explores what drives them to be in their extreme roles. The goal is to address the cause and facilitate transformation of behaviors back to their preferred healthier roles.

Psychotherapy is always conducted in an atmosphere of compassion, respect
and appreciation for these many parts/aspects of the personality that protect your inner system in the manner that they do.
